I was born in Menominee, Michigan but grew up in Coleman, Wisconsin. Graduated from Northwestern College in 1973 and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1977. My first call was to start a mission (Sola Fide Lutheran Church) in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I served there for 12 1/2 years. In 1989 I was called to King of Kings Lutheran Church in Maitland, Florida and served there the same amount of time. In 2002 I was called to Messiah Lutheran Church in Johns Creek, Georgia and served there from 2002 to 2017 before retiring from the full-time Gospel ministry. I served as the South Atlantic District Mission Board Chairman from 1988-2002. During that time Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church was begun.
My wife, Judy, and I were married a month after I graduated from the Seminary. We have been married for almost 42 years. She was a Lutheran teacher, having taught on the Apache Reservation in Arizona and at Shoreland Lutheran High School in Kenosha. Wisconsin. During our married life she has worked as a librarian. Most recently she was librarian at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. We retired together and moved to Crossville, Tennessee in July of 2017.
Retirement has been busy. Since we have been retired, I have served in eight states from Colorado to New York to Florida. In retirement Judy and I would like to do a bit of traveling, and play golf again, but we do enjoy God’s people wherever they live.
We have three children: Kristina (Pastor Troy) Jacobs in Maineville, Ohio; Pastor Ben (Rachel) Zahn in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Courtney Zahn who teaches in Fort Morgan, Colorado. We have five grandchildren and pray that God changes that at the end of February with our sixth, five girls and one boy.
We spent twenty eight years serving the Lord in Metro Atlanta. We are very fond of the area. We are looking forward to serving Mighty Fortress as an interim pastor and the Hiram, Dallas area.
